FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Open Studios @ Space 4 Art
Join us from 6-9 p.m. April 14 for an evening of art, music,
food, libations, and improvised fun!

San Diego— Open Studios @ Space 4 Art, featuring more than 10 open studios, immersive musical performances, improvised al fresco music and dance offerings, a taco truck, and a cash bar, is set for April 14 from 6-9 p.m at Space 4 Art’s East Village facility. Admission is free, and the public is invited to attend.

“We get calls every day asking, ‘Can we come see what you all are doing down there?’ said Space 4 Art director Jennifer de Poyen. “This is a great chance to visit studios, see the work, talk to the artists, and have an immersive artistic experience. Everything is free, and all are welcome.”

Space 4 Art resident Chris Warren, a composer and educator at San Diego State University, will be showing some of his most recent experiments in intense reverberation. The loft he shares with his wife Ariana Warren, clarinetist with the San Diego Parlor Orchestra, will be transformed for the evening into an unreal echo chamber.

The event comes as Space 4 Art is ramping up plans to build a permanent home on land purchased for that purpose at 2529 Market Street in Sherman Heights. Founders Bob Leathers and Cheryl Nickel will be on hand at Open Studios to display the future-home model and discuss plans for the project, which is expected to break ground in the fall of 2019. Once built, the multidisciplinary facility will provide live and work space for 40-50 artists of all disciplines; a wood and metal shop; a large, flexible-use art gallery; an indoor-outdoor event space for 200-300 people; and a covered outdoor 180-seat amphitheater. It will function simultaneously as a creative incubator for the local arts community, an arts enrichment center for underserved and historically excluded students, and a multidisciplinary arts center for all of San Diego.

Until the permanent home is built, Space 4 Art is located at 340 16th St., San Diego, CA 92101 (enter through the metal gates off 16th Street). Parking is limited, so please consider using a ride-sharing service to Open Studios @ Space 4 Art on April 14.
